It Usually Takes a Couple Tries…..

Inhale.

Chin up

Shoulders back

Chest out

Bright eyes

Slight smile

Exhale.

Head down

Shoulders sagged

Back slouched

Droopy eyes

Full frown

It usually takes a couple tries to mold myself into the correct shape

The one where I look confidant

It usually takes a couple of times to find the right clothes

Where I look skinny, but still feel comfortable

It usually takes a couple of tries to find the right shoes

Where I’m not too short but also not tripping over my feet all day

It usually takes a couple of times to find the right hairstyle, put on the right makeup, and get into the right attitude

I beat myself up in the mirror everyday

Tearing down my appearance, because who doesn’t want to be liked?

Who doesn’t want to make a good impression?

It usually takes a couple of tries to learn how to talk right

How to talk like everyone else and learn the right new hip hand motions

It usually takes a couple times to fake being happy

Maybe if I act happy all the time, I’ll finally feel it

People see what I want them to see

The person who I want them to think I am

But it’s the bad days that really show who I am

The days I don’t care

I wear trashy clothes, with ratted hair, puffy eyes and a slouched body

But then someone comes up to me and tells me

“You look pretty today, your eyes are really bright.”

Huh

I guess I didn’t notice.
